Brett LaCour: Week 2 Duck Bottle Opener

When organically modeling my duck I found that the natural shape of the duck created some interesting options to be creative.  I initially thought of modeling a duck phone but opted for a bottle opener. I figured it would be a challenge as well as interesting.
I modeled the shape of the ducks body to fit ideally in the palm of the users hand.  I found that the head naturally will act as a fulcrum for the user in order to lift the bottle cap.  So the head and body coexist to create a simple streamlined yet affective shape for the task.  In order to create the bottle opener I extruded curves then booleaned them to the ducks neck.
For materials I chose a two toned wood scheme for the body and a dark aluminum for the opener.  I am really fond of the two contrasting toned aesthetic of the wood along with the dark metal of the opener.  I've seen this replicated mostly in furniture and applied it to my model and really enjoyed it.
