I decided to design a simple ring with a similar shape to the ring in the Lord of the Rings. I also wanted to add my interest of movies and salute the film that is being replaced by the digital cameras in the last few years.
I created the ring by creating a tube with the dimensions that I wanted. I then filleted the edges of the ring to create a smooth surface. i made the pattern of the film in curves and extruded them for BooleanDifference. I extracted the outer surface of the ring to a flat plane and placed the extruded film pattern on it and used ArrayLinear to get an even spacing between them. I then used FlowAlongSrf to get them around the ring in a nice manner. I used the film patterns to BooleanDifference out the holes and then I filleted the edges.
I chose gold as my material for the ring since it is supposed to more luxurious. I rendered in passes to work on the render in photoshop and get more control over my final picture. I used Diffuse, z-Depth, Beauty, Shadow, Specular, Reflection, Refraction and Ambient Occlusion renders to compose my final picture.
