Grant Hoskins: Week 1 Castle

Grant Hoskins Winter 2014 ELDS205 Castle

This is the castle that I created in Rhino. I was inspired by traditional style castles like the ones you might see in a movie. I got inspiration from different castles that I found on the internet. After finding several, I picked the ones I likes and pieced components together until I got something that I liked. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I created this model using a variety of different solids. The bulk of the castle was created using simple rectangles. The pillars are constructed of a combination of cylinders, truncated cones, and regular cones. The windows and door were done using the boolean difference command. Overall, I think this was a fairly simple method that got the job done effectively.

I had a little bit of trouble rendering in Keyshot. The material I used was a black slate stone. Although there is only one material, I think it works well. Many old castles were built out of one kind of stone. I could have added a few more but I think that it would have only made very minor differences.
