I wasn't sure what to do with my flashlight at first. I
started looking at different flashlight designs and pulling inspiration from different
parts that I liked. I played around with different shapes and patterns in rhino.
It eventual started to look more like a Greek column for some reason, so I went
with it. I then decided I should add the batman symbol to the lens, just for
fun.
To make
my flashlight I used a lot of Polar Array and Boolean difference on various shapes
to get the different patterns. For the bat design on the lens I used ovals and
lines to make the basic shape and then trimmed out the access lines. Once I had
the clean bat shape I extended it and added it to the lens. The basic shape of
the flashlight inside all the detailed patterning is made of a cylinder. The
top part that is more curved was made by blending surfaces of the main cylinder
and another that I latter go rid of.
When choosing materials I thought about what would make the most sense with the bat man symbol. I decided that perhaps it was designed for bat man himself; perhaps he uses it to signal people. Since this is the case and money is clearly not an issue for him I used I lot of gold. I also used chrome because (to the best of my knowledge) it’s a strong metal used in cars, which I thought just sounded like him. I also thought about more practical materials. The grip for instance is rubber and the material around the lens at the very front is a see-through plastic (to allow more light to shine out and also to not break on impact).
