Jace McDill Week 4: Cube Drive USB

My design was highly influenced by necessity. I found that the written tutorial for the USB was hard to follow and I continuously had problems with filleting because the tutorial did not state how to set up the grid to properly follow the tutorial. Therefore i decided to create my own design, incorporating the same techniques used in the tutorial while creating a more fluid and elegant design. The Cube drive comes in many different colors and the cube logo was derived from my own personal logo that i developed while in color theory, and i believe it looks good because of the contradiction with the smooth form.

The Main tools that were in my Rhino aresenal were the curve, sweep2, offset, blendsrf, and fillet commands. I started with curves for the shape and to creat the inset sections i drew a curve, projected it and the trimmed and offset the surface. Blendsrf was also very helpful because it allowed to to get nice free flowing edges without messing with the headache of filleting

The Materials i chose accent the smooth and elegant shape that i designed. The large surfaces are shiny plastic while the dividing lines and the inset sections are rough plastic which creates a beautiful contrast between the two. The logo is clear plastic and it is meant to light up when inserted into the computer to allow the user to know when the USB is attached correctly.
