TriDelt Shades
Sunglasses are no longer an accessory for disguise or for protective purposes, but an accessory for self expression. They are an item of clothing that does not necessarily have to match an entire outfit. Sunglasses are now used playfully. At least, this is the kind of product I wanted to create. I wanted to create a design that was simple, yet fun and different. Something retro, yet modern. I love triangles, so I started researching about triangle shaped shades and I found a really interesting pair on the internet. The frame was a triangle, but the lens where round with negative shapes. This immediately caught my attention, but something was not right about the design. I thought about trying the same design but vise-versa: round frame and triangle shaped lens. Along the way I alternated the proportions, colors and materials to fix the purpose of my design.
To model this design, I followed the tutorials on blackboard. Using my sketches as "picture frames" and the curve tool to start modeling. Then I used the Extrude Curve command to turn those curves into a solid. I fillet all the edges and Boolemean Different the parts together.
For the material choice, I have in mind that I wanted the triangle shaped lens to stand out. I chose a clear plastic so the triangle shape wouldn't be lost. Since the frame is pretty think and bulky there is no need for it to have a striking color nor material. The light blue tint seemed to be accurate to convey simplicity and a modern feel. Also, plastic is a good material for sunglasses that are durable and it maintains a playful feel; which was one of my main goals.
