Shannnon Donnelly: Week 5: Sunglasses

For this project I wanted to create a geometric sunglasses design. I chose to keep the frame boxy, yet round the edges so they weren't too sharp. I got inspiration from classic Ray Bans for the sides. I wanted a traditional sunglasses form, so they would me wearable.

I started with the PictureFrame tool to layout my sketches in Rhino. Then I used the Crv2View command to create the form of the sunglasses after drawing out the basic lines with curves. I used the fillet tool to round off all of my edges, and finished with the BooleanUnion tool to join all the forms.

For the materials I wanted to keep it basic. I used copper on the wire and the small accent detail on the frames. I used a cherry wood as a detail on the sides to contrast with the copper and the material of the frames. For the frames, I chose a hard matte plastic to make the design sleek and used a dark glass for the lenses.
