Shameka Browne-Heskey: Week 6: Promise Ring

Just a little too big!
I wanted to make a promise ring for this project. The "v" shape is supposed to echo a single heartbeat. The idea is simple, yet thoughtful.

I drew my curves and then piped them. After that, I used the boolean union command to join the "v" shape to the ring.

This ring is rendered in 18k brushed gold.

Christian Edwards: Week 6 Ring







        TravlRing is a concept of a pedometer device that connects to your phone through bluetooth.  On your phone you can see how far you've walked and how many steps you've taken.  There are two buttons on the whole ring.  One lighted button that is used to turn on the device, and an indented button that when clicked, searches for bluetooth devices in the area so it can find your phone and connect with it.  There are 6 holes on the underside of the ring that are used for ventilation and comfort.  This ring can is for and can be worn by anybody.  

        The design was made simple through certain elements in the software Rhino.  I used polar array, boolean difference, and fillet edge to create this simple yet sophisticated ring.  

        The materials I used was cloudy plastic for the ring itself, and a light for the lighted button.  The cloudy plastic gives the ring a beautiful touch.  As one studies the ring, they can observe all the different reflections and retractions seen through the ring.

Week 6 - Peyman Pirzadeh - Ring Project





For the ring project my inspiration was the military rings. Since SCAD doesn't have a graduation ring I decided to design and model a graduation ring for our school. 

So I started the modeling by making curves. In this part I only used circles for where the finger goes and the top of the ring. Then I had another curvy line and used Crv2view to shape my circle lines to the curvy line. Then I used Surface From Network of Surface to apply a surface on my curves. Then I used Rotate to rotate and copy one side to another so I would have my ring's body. Then
 I had other curves on each hole's side I used Sweep2 to make them a surface. Finally I used loft to create the inside part and to connect holes together. For the top part also I used a curve and a rail and had the command Railrevolve to make the curve a surface. Finally for the text on top I used LUV curves and FlowAlongSrf to apply the curve on my created surface.

For the Materials I used Matt Gold for the body part, Copper for the part under texts and leather for the stand. I also used HDR Office Environment image to get the reflection on my ring surface.

     My ring, Nenya, was inspired by the Lord of the Rings and this ring. Nenya is one of the Three Rings, one of the most powerful rings in Tolkien's mythology. It supposedly has a radiance that matches that of the stars. In this way I wanted to create a ring that is formed from a basic shape but has elegant and radiant detail. As I was researching rings I noticed that there is only one basic Lord of the Rings ring that contains the quote, which isn't very extravagant. I created a design that highlights the quote on the ring and has detail through the spirals.

     To create the basic form of the ring I made a cylinder and booleandifferenced a smaller cylinder into the outer edge. To form the spirals I used the spiral command and piped the separate curves. I used a pictureframe to create the quote and used the command flow along surface to wrap the text around the ring. I created a very large fillet for the inner edges so that the ring can be taken off and put on easily. I used smaller fillets for the remaining edges. Then I booleanunioned the spirals to my ring and booleandifferenced the letters into the surface. 

     To create my renderings I used several passes. The main material of the ring is a polished copper but has a black metal material overlay to create stronger lighting effects. I also used an ambient occlusion layer, a specular layer, a mask layer, and a diffuse layer. To create the orthographic projections I used the command make2d in rhino and copied the created image into photoshop.

Jeffrey Tindi | Week 6 | Ring

My ring design was inspired by London designer Domini Jones' "Otto Ring". My main objective was create a ring that symmetrical with strong visual weight. I was also inspired my Egyptian jewelry. 

My entire ring was produced from three initial curves. I created a circle that two curves, first by creating one side then reflecting that curve. I than used "Curve Boolean" to join the two curves. I used "Offset" to great the inner curve. I used "Fillet" to curve the edges than created the lower half of the ring using "Loft". After I sealed off the ring using Patch and Cap. I flipped the ring then "BooleanUnion" ed the two pieces. 

My material choice was 24K gold. I felt this would fit its modern aesthetic well and improve its visual weight.  This material would also allow me to play around a bit more with the specular settings.

Crysta Polvinale Week 6: Sunglasses






This design was made with the intent to create a hardy, durable sunglasses frame to be "easy to hold and easy to fold". I personally don't care for thin and fragile sunglasses that feel like you might break them if you hold on to tightly. The Simpletons are something you can toss into your bag without worrying about them getting crushed.
Modeling techniques in Rhino included picture frames of my sketches to closely follow the original idea. I also used Curve 2 views to get the curved shape for the frames. My workflow also included patching, boolean union and extracting isocurves.
In keyshot, I wanted to give the frames a modern tortoiseshell look. I used clear plastic to reinforce the durable concept. Over that I added a color map of granite and scaled that up so it looked like a cloudy detail in the plastic.
