Tim Hardin: Week 10 Kite
I went with a montana gold spray painted/ black accented color way for my kite. The design is supposed to resemble spotlights/the environment of a huge concert since my creations always put on a show. (update with sketch soon)
Tim Hardin: Week 4 USB
This USB device was inspired by a pill shape, and is intended for people who want a "flashy" flashdrive. To create it I used multiple offset surfaces, sweep2s, and lots of fillets (hence the name "Pillet"). To make it stand out from the rest of the USB devices I used a red anondized metal along with pure platinum and 24k gold for a subtly luxurious flash drive.
Tim Hardin: Week 5 Sunglasses

These "POM: Fruity Eyewear" sunglasses are based off of Nathan Becks sketches. He intended for them to resemble a fruit that has just been picked from a tree. I used his idea and created an apple themed version.
To create the frames I drew the circle curves first and then offset them to have the circle part to fit the lenses. Then I drew all of the other curves, extruded them accordingly, and then booleaned them together. To create the lenses I booleaned out a pipe in the middle for the lenses to sit in and then slightly extruded and inserted the lens'.
To get the fruity/apple look in keyshot, I used a very light green soft/shiny plastic to resemble a fresh apple. Since red is another color associated with apples, I tinted the glass lenses a dark red which stands out nicely from the green.

Crysta Polvinale Week ? Tube Chair
This chair was inspired by the simplicity of a schoolhouse chair. I think the utilitarian aspect of this kind of chair has become beautiful in its nostalgia. This chair is intended to be in a public space where it will evoke the sense of school-days-gone-by for many people.
I drew curves as the basis for the chair structure, followed by curve 2 view, and patch. Then I used an offset surface for the back and seat of the chair. For the rails I used a curve, orient perpendicular, and sweep 1 workflow.
In keyshot, I wanted to maintain the sense of a school chair by employing the ever useful wood and a simple forest green. I adjusted the 2 screen lighting environment to add some interesting shadows and then rendered in a few passes.

Tim Hardin: Week 9 Lamp
For this project, I wanted to create a lamp that resembled a splash (more specifically a splash of light). To create the shape of the lamp, I drew an initial curve and revolved it, added multiple taurus' around the outside of the object, and boolean differenced a cylinder through the middle for the hole to fit the socket. I also used the bend tool to form the shape exactly how I wanted it to look.
To create the ribs for laser cutting, I used the section tool, pipes and trim tool, and finally the unroll script that was provided. In keyshot, I used the light oak material for the wood, and adjusted the colors so it resembled the local color of the wood I have purchased for the actual lamp. I also used an area light and then turned it up to around 100 watts so that it would create a nice glow.

Crysta Polvinale Week 8 Lamp
This lamp is inspired by the shape of a jelly fish. I wanted to create a relationship between a static form and this very fluid creature. I also thought that the side shape was not interesting enough so I added some running details.
The processes I used included creating a curve, revolving it, and then contouring the solid form for the horizontal pieces. For the vertical, I arrayed polar those sections and made planar surfaces. From there, I projected the details and split the surface.
In keyshot, I used a lighter wood which will be closer to the material I am using for the laser cutter. I used rendering in passes with a beauty pass, occlusion, and toon for a darker outline. I also adjusted the lighting environment to be darker for the lamp-on view.

Crysta Polvinale: Week 6: Ring
This ring design was inspired by the balance of night and day. The suspension of the two settings on a delicate helix represents celestial bodies of two opposing forces that function in sync, but never seem to meet. I also like the idea of a ring that doesn't fully close around the finger which is why I used the helix.
My workflow in Rhino consisted of using a 2 turn helix curve for the band, followed by a round cap pipe. For the teardrop turquoise, I created a curve and revolved it. For the setting I used curve to round cap pipe and the array polar.
In Keyshot, I chose the turquoise stone to for a natural focal point inside the simple silver armature. I took several layers into photoshop and varied their effects on each other. For the reflection, I focused on combining warm colors from keyshot to contrast with the cool silver and blue.

Tim Hardin: Week 6 Ring
My intent with this ring was to encase part of it in a dome to showcase the brilliance of the gold and chrome accents underneath. I wanted to create a flashy band ring with accents and a modern touch. Since it is luxurious and royal, I dubbed it the Kingdome, as it is something you might see a modern king wear. When creating the design, I made multiple curves and used the sweep1 command around a 9mm rail to make the band. To create the ridges/divots I made a few more curves, mirrored them, and used the sweep1 command again along more off-centered rails that I had copied. I then used those swept curves as a cutting object and trimmed out the original band surface, filleted them all, and finally added 1 more curve along the center rail to act as the dome. To make it really shine, I used 24k gold for the main band with platinum accents in the divots. For the dome I went with a basic glass, which not only showcases the ring but also acts in interesting ways to refract light more than the ring would without it.

Crysta Polvinale Week 6: Sunglasses
This design was made with the intent to create a hardy, durable sunglasses frame to be "easy to hold and easy to fold". I personally don't care for thin and fragile sunglasses that feel like you might break them if you hold on to tightly. The Simpletons are something you can toss into your bag without worrying about them getting crushed.
Modeling techniques in Rhino included picture frames of my sketches to closely follow the original idea. I also used Curve 2 views to get the curved shape for the frames. My workflow also included patching, boolean union and extracting isocurves.
In keyshot, I wanted to give the frames a modern tortoiseshell look. I used clear plastic to reinforce the durable concept. Over that I added a color map of granite and scaled that up so it looked like a cloudy detail in the plastic.

My main purpose of this project was to base it on its functionally. Whenever I'm doing laundry, I get extremely irritated by how hard it is to grab the bottle when they don't even have a handle, or if they have the handle they don't have the curvature for the fingers, or when I have to wait more than five minutes to wait for those last drops of detergent to slide off the bottle. I enjoy doing laundry, but I wish I wouldn't have to get exasperated every time. Now, with this new design, my life as a college student couldn't get any better. It is light weight, it has a handle bar with the curvature for the fingers, and also, the unique heart shape makes the detergent slide off faster.
In KeyShot, I got caught up with the plastic materials and choose a very vibrant color palette to give it a sparkle of freshness but without making them look boring. I decided that both bottles should have something that would related them: the two yellow stripes, that's right! Also, I just scale down the big bottle and created a smaller one because it looks adorable.
I would have to say that I didn't have any struggles with this model until I had to used the FilletEdge command with the curves that I used with the Sweep2. At one point, the curve was separated, I don't know what I did wrong however I used the command Pipe to make them look like the others FilletEdges.

Crysta Polvinale Week 5: USB Flash Drive
This duck was something I used for the rubber duck product, but in this one I changed a few things. The duck seemed to translate well into a USB when I used the metal plug in the place of a beak.I wanted this to be a fun flashdrive that someone would want to carry on their keychain.
The techniques were the same as the previous except I added some fillets on the plug. Started with basic spheres and shaped them into a duck. Boolean union and splits were integral to this model.
I wanted this to be modern but still fun so I used so greens and divorced form the traditional duck coloring.

Tim Hardin: Week 3 Mouse
Originally, I intended to incorporate the looks of a piranha into my mouse design while at the same time creating a functional and comfortable to use mouse. The grooves and divots are meant to resemble teeth and scales while at the same time increasing aesthetic appeal.
To create the form after lofting the initial curves, I mirrored a curve onto both sides to trim it so it would be more form fitting to the hand. To create the divots for the buttons I projected circles on the surface, extended the curves, split the circle from the surface, and dropped it to the bottom of the extended curves. Then to add the buttons/eyes, I used the orient on surface command that we used to add eyes to our ducks. I also used boolean difference to create the hole for the scroll wheel as well as the teeth on the front.
I decided to go with an aggressive red metal because it matches the characteristics of a piranha as well as making it look sleek. I used a metallic black paint on the buttons and wheel to the same effect. Although it may somewhat resemble a piranha, when I look at it now it see a recently deceased fish for sale in the local supermarket. I think it's the eyes.
Tim Hardin: Week 3 Hammer
This Hammer was inspired by a nickname for a baseball great, Hank Aaron, also known as "Hammerin' Hank." This influenced me to do a sports themed hammer, and I found that it was quite easy to integrate two of the most important tools in the sport, the baseball and the bat.
I created a lot of curves before I found one that seemed like a fitting bat shape, and then revolved it to make the bat. To create the seams on the baseball and handle on the bat, i had to project curves onto their respective shapes and then piped those curves. For the divots in the head of the hammer, I created a polar array of cylinders around the object and then used a boolean difference to subtract them from the shape.
To make it seem as authentic as possible, I tried to find the most accurate brown paint for the handle as well as an accurate red for the seams of the ball. I used a black metal for the hammer head and claw to show that although the user might be celebrating Americas past time, they mean business and their hammer is the real deal.
