I took my inspiration from the all the other castles on the ELDS 205 blog and Roman Architecture.
Rhino tools used:
  1. Extrude curve.
  2. Ortho Snaps and modeling aids(changing Nudge to the arrow keys in properties and adjusting the sensitivity is extremely helpful.
  3. Mirror
  4. Array polar
  5. Array along curve
  6. Offset
  7. Boolean Difference
  8. Join
  9. Group
  10. extrude planar surface
  11. Trim

MAXIMILIANO ACEVEDO - WEEK 1: CASTLE MODEL

I wanted to create a minimalistic castle from the future. When I started designing this castle I realized how many things could be created with Rhino. There are many options to create forms and figures. My goal was to create a building out of many different objects to create the sensation of future.

Jamie (So Whi) Lim: Week1 Castle

My castle was inspired by the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. I wanted to design a castle that looks medieval, organized, and one that people could actually live in. I used many rectangular, cylindrical, and triangular forms. Experiencing all the tools and forms was interesting.

Marc Fleischmann - Week 1: Castle

When I started designing this castle I didn't have an exact idea what it should look like in the end. It was rather important to me to get used to the Rhino tools and commands we have learned so far and to get to know some more that could enhance my castle. The first thing I started with were the four towers in the corners. Basically I started with two mirrored cones and kept on adding ans subtracting shapes that I created by using mainly the primitive shapes and boolean commands. Finally their design reminded me a little of towers out of a fantasy movie, like The Lord of the Rings. I tried to keep on building in this style and added some rather futuristic details like the arches, where I tried to use the loft-tool.

When I was designing this castle I really had no idea were I was going with it. I just started with one corner and kept adding on. My goal was to create something futuristic, something from out of space.   In order to create this castle I mostly used array and polar array, extrude, mirror, rotate and revolve tools.

Part of my inspiration came from my previous experience in art history last year. I learned to love and appreciate the certain aspects of roman temples. I am intrigued by the strict and organized structure and the balanced qualities that is seen in almost most roman temples. Concepts noted in the pillars and colonnade within the temple are taken from Nimes of France. Although it lacks the pediment, it has a roof that is repeated in the base. I decided to add a futuristic flare to the building by adding the spikes with floating spheres on top.
