Matthew Grello: Week 10 3D scan

 For my scanned object, I worked with Christian McKenzie. For our model we used a vinyl toy that Christian had, minus the head. After scanning the object, it took several families and patches to align and fuse in order to achieve the mesh I exported into rapidworks. In rapid works I ran a repair wizard and sanded some rougher patches, then exported the model into rhino. Since the item we used was the body of a doll, I decided the best course of action would be to add a head, but had to make sure I kept it classy, so I added a top hat. In Keyshot, the body of the doll and head are a soft grey plastic, and the eyes and mouth features are a rough black plastic, and to top it off the hat is a black leather with a grey leather accent.

For this project Isabella and I decided to scan a 3D foam model of a hammer head. We got this from a friend who is taking Model and Prototype class. We scanned it and then imported it into rhino with a tight mesh and then I added the handle using curves and then extruded them. For the modeling of the hammer I wanted to create a playful design that could work for Home Depot's #Let's Do This Campaign. The main design consideration was to use a minimum amount of materials to make it cheap to make, but make it look good as advertising.

    For this project, I partnered with Avi. We made a whistle out of scrap foam and scanned it in. There was some difficulty and errors that occurred when trying to Autosurface and export as an IGES file, so I had to end up using the messy mesh. However, I took the opportunity to use the rough texture to my advantage, and Keyshotted the whistle with a stone material. I imagine someone crafted this whistle quite some time ago and it has since been left to weather the elements.
   All in all, this scan went better then my first attempt, which, although visually successful, became completely corrupted and useable.

Mackinley Farmer: Week 10 3D Scanning Project





For this project my main focus was creating a model out of foam that would translate well in a scan with my little knowledge using the 3D scanner. My partner and I created a large scale jelly bean in which we took several scans of 12 pictures each. We then aligned them to create one solid mass. We moved the file over to Solid Works to polish and sand the model. Once I had the file in Rhino I decided to make a child's phone shaped like none other than a Jelly Bean! I used the project command a lot on Rhino to add onto the form since it wasn't a perfect, smooth, and symmetrical object. With my materials I used brightly colored, hard shiny plastics to give it an appeal to children. Its also very durable which I would assume would be necessary. So there you have it..The Jelly-Phone!

Eris Muller: Week 10 3D Scan



Allie and I had difficulty with the 3D scanning model. We aligned it in Scan Studio the imported it into Rapid Works. Then from Rapid Works we were unable to clean up the model and import it into Rhino. We did not know how to do it and the manual and tutorials were of no help so we ended up with just a model in Rapid Works.

Andrea Carriquiry: Week 9 3D Scan








For the 3D scan project my team and I scanned a foam model of a lock. After completing the scanning process. I imported it into rhino and modelled it by replicating the shapes. Using curves and extruding them or using actual shapes.
For the materials I decided to use for the Keyshot rendering were colored anodized metal to make the lock stand out, as well as make it more appealing to look at and easier to find. I decided to make a key just to go with it and make it the same color so people could have different locks and keys and this way they can easily find which key belongs to each lock.
I think the scanning technology is that is available for us to use is incredible and that also could be extremely useful as in the following years here at SCAD, we will be able to make prototypes out of foam and then scan them and import them into rhino and be able to fix them, and create a cleaner prototype by 3D printing it.
