Jamie So Whi Lim: Week 10 Laser Scan

For this project, I worked with Kirsten. We tried to scan a few objects like a watch, doll, and a panda light. The most successfully scanned one was the panda, so we decided to work with it. We smoothed out the panda with rapidworks. When we brought it to rhino, there was not much to fix.
Then I remodeled the panda light. I rebuilt a sphere and moved the control points around. When I was rendering in keyshot, I used a blue area light for the inside, and a clear plastic for the outside so that the color of the light would show through the outside part of the panda.
For the rendering of the original rhino with meshes, I used soft rough plastic with red color.

For this 3D scan I wanted to make a tiny object that looked beat up and battered so when I put it into rhino it would has a cool looking surface texture. I made a tiny fencing sword and tried to give it the look as if it's a relic from the past and just recently found and polished. The handle is made from wood and the hand cover is made from brass, the actual blade is made from steel.

Maximiliano Acevedo week 9: scan model







For this project my team and I chose a foam model of a lock. The scanning process was interesting and fun. I ve never worked with a 3d scanning before, it was amazing . I find this tool very useful for future projects. I know we could have used it in a better way, but now that I know the way to use it it will be an amazing tool for the future, I am glad that SCAD has this tool for us. Fr the materials I chose steel and milled steel with some metallic colors, I think the convention of colors looks pretty good with steel.

Avi Spratt Week 9: Laser Scan

Using a piece of scrap foam, I built a rough whistle form. I chose foam simply because I knew that its surface is not as clean as scupley, and wanted to take full advantage of the laser scanner to show the roughness of the foam. I worked with Nick Tourville and we initially disagreed on material choice. However, stone made much more sense because of the mottled texture of the scan. The process of going through alignment, filling holes, and exporting through different programs was actually fairly simple, but very time consuming. The PC was very slow, if it had a faster processor I'm sure it wouldn't have taken so long. Overall I find that Laser scanning technology is insanely useful, and it was a good skill to learn.
