This USB device was inspired by a pill shape, and is intended for people who want a "flashy" flashdrive. To create it I used multiple offset surfaces, sweep2s, and lots of fillets (hence the name "Pillet"). To make it stand out from the rest of the USB devices I used a red anondized metal along with pure platinum and 24k gold for a subtly luxurious flash drive.

Crysta Polvinale Week 5: USB Flash Drive
This duck was something I used for the rubber duck product, but in this one I changed a few things. The duck seemed to translate well into a USB when I used the metal plug in the place of a beak.I wanted this to be a fun flashdrive that someone would want to carry on their keychain.
The techniques were the same as the previous except I added some fillets on the plug. Started with basic spheres and shaped them into a duck. Boolean union and splits were integral to this model.
I wanted this to be modern but still fun so I used so greens and divorced form the traditional duck coloring.

Quinn Baldacci: Week 4 Flash Drive
I decided to model my flash drive after one I really liked and happened to lose. I particularly liked that it had a swivel cover and a loop to attach a key ring to. I didn't like the five cut outs in the tutorial so I lengthened it and made it a single cut out. I also rounded the overall form and added a cap. Finally I added my initial in the swivel hinge.
I used the ExtrudeCrv and Sweep2 tools for the main structures. Project, loft, and fillet for the details. The fillets gave me some difficulty because of the curves but they worked out eventually. I learned a lot about the Offset tool. I figured out it doesn't work quite the way I would like it but it can be useful.
In Keyshot I used a number of textures to play and show different ways these product could be made. The first is rough plastics and a metal cover similar to the flash drive I lost. The second I took the cap off and swiveled the cover over. I used just plastics on this one. The cover is a clouded plastic and the cap is a clear one. The main body is a rough plastic. The final one I played a lot more. The body and cap are the same clear blue plastic. The cover is wood. The engraving I decided to make a light source. It is refracting through the body of the flash drive. I imagine if I were to actually produce this, the initial would illuminate when the flash drive is plugged in and working.

Sarah Zambrana: Week 4 USB
For this project, I used the USB rhino tutorial that was provided. I really enjoyed how simplified the steps were. If I would've had to make this on my own, I definitely would've made things a lot more complicated than were. The tools I used were offset, blend surfaces, mirror, extrude curves and fillet edge. Out of all the tools that learn to use here, I think that my favorite one was the offset command. It can be very useful, especially for hollow objects. I chose some painted plastic for the exterior and titanium for the connector. The colors are supposed to reflect natural colors that resemble red rock. I like the mix of modern technology with organic and natural ideas.

Elliott Lane: Week 4 USB
For the design of my USB drive, I followed the tutorial closely until I ran into roadblocks. I went back after not being able to fillet the offset surfaces well and arranged them more precisely. I learned a lot about order of filleting through this assignment. For the materials, I used aluminum and brass for the connection and clear plastic and jade for the body of the drive.

Jamie So Whi Lim: Week 4 USB
I wanted my USB to look transparent so I could make it look light. For my commands I used sweep2, offset, and trim the most. I also used booleandifference for some of the parts. My USB is mostly plastic. I used clear and cloudy plastic for the materials. And I used gold for the USB logo so it would pop out from the rest of the blue colors.

My USB design mostly followed the tutorial. However, I gave the design a small twist. I have recently had the problem of forgetting my flashdrive in the computer lab. So, I added a car or house key the to end to add a greater personal value to the drive. My combining to necessary objects, the design has an object the user cannot afford to let slip their mind. There is also a small speaker that makes a sound when the user logs off a computer, and a light that turns on when the USB is plugged in and active. The offset tool was especially helpful in this design.

For my USB I created, I created one that would light up and glow when put into a computer similar to the one I have now. The USB is made out of a combination of plastic and aluminum. The contact points on the inside of the USB are made of copper. To create this USB flash-drive I primarily used line tools to create form from a background bitmap. Also I used the trim command and offset command frequently.

Christian McKenzie- Week 4: USB
I thought having a nice little strap on the back would be nice. Most drives I have seen only have a little nylon string and a jump hoop to attach it to whatever. I have put an integrated strap on the back.
Techniques:
Offset surface and blend surface: for most of the details
fillet edge: when i didn't use blend surface
Extrude curve: for the majority of the forms
Boolean Union: to merge the forms
Material Choices: I wanted to keep it high tech.
Blue rough glass: for the lights
grey leather: I shifter the color to black and increase the shine

Benjamin Osborn - Week 4 - USB
For my USB I followed the tutorial exactly. I really liked having numbers in front of me while modeling. It made filleting, and using the offset tool very easy. My biggest trouble was trying to get rid of all the naked edges. Where the metal insert met the case was the problem area. But after a long process of trimming, adding, and more trimming of surfaces I got it. In keyshot I decided to go with sleek look. I used aluminum for the insert, and the rest was black gloss plastic, rough black plastic, and the emissive blue inlays.
