Marcus Van Gorden - Week 2 Duck Tape Dispenser

As soon as I hear we were modeling a duck and it had to be a product I wanted to make a Duck Tape Dispenser for my favorite household fix-all. I decided I wanted it to look like the Duck Tape brand duck as much as possible with the cartoon-ish orange beak. I felt it would be important that the tape dispenser hold the reel internally so it would look like a duck and not a roll of tape.
I began the construction by making two spheres and changing the form by adding control points to the spheres and deforming them into the desired shape. Next I used the trim tool to cut the head and body so that I could use the blend surface tool to generate the neck. Finally I made the eyes and projected a circle for the pupils onto it. Finally I drew a curve and split the beak from the head and made an opening in the beak for the tape to come out of. After that I used the patch surface tool to close the inside of the beak so there would be no naked edges. I was unable to get the patch tool to work on the upper part of the beak without adding a large rectangle to the piece.
When I went to render this I wanted it to be a easily molded plastic that could be transparent so you could see how much tape was left, but it still maintained the form of a duck. I made the eyes of white plastic and the pupils out of carbon fiber because I just love it. I gave the beak the orange peel texture so that it would have that bright orange beak and some organic feeling texture to it.
