Ryan Gillam: Week 2 Flashlight

This flashlight design draws from a long tradition of cylindrical flashlights.  The flared mouth and the ribs along the shaft specifically were inspired by certain 1930's flashlights.

Here I used mostly the rotate/copy tool, the pipe, and the revolve tool.  The ribs on the grip were created by manipulating the command points on a sphere then rotating and copying the shape along the surface of the shaft.  The trim tool was used to remove the spare material on the interior.  For the mouth I drew a curve and used the revolve tool to form the surface.  Pipe was added along the edges and finally I filleted the hard edge at the base.

A more matte aluminum was the material I chose.  I wanted to use a solid metal in response to the products that inspired me.  The more matte aluminum gave just enough luster without an overbearing glare.
