Tyler Parton Week 1: Castle

Tyler Parton Week 1: Castle

I used byzantine centrally planned church for the main layout of the castle. I mixed in a little bit of Roman, Arabic, Persian and Celtic details for flavor. I used boolean subtraction to created most of my shapes paired along with polar arrays. The ghosted view used displays some of the interior which is hard to see in the rendering.

I turned down the scale of the texture map associated with the materials that I used to create a more detailed bricking pattern to show off the implied scale of the model. I used brushed copper for the domes to set them apart from the stone put emphasis on the symmetrical nature of the castle.
I was influenced by the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" to elevate the castle and its walls and to use a drawbridge.

The intent was to create a believable scene with a watchmen at his post. I used Photoshop to replace the white background of the render with the image. I used blur and a noise filter to show the depth between the wall and the ground. I had problems with the lights that I placed in the columns.

Thank you.
