Shameka Browne-Heskey: Week 1: Castle/Spaceship

Ghosted

Bird's Eye

The title of my spaceship is Global Takeover. I figured that it would be cool to design a spaceship that could shoot flaming red balls of fire out at its desired target from any angle. The fact that it looks like an eyeball floating through space was not intended, but it helps the cause.

I knew that I wanted to have a well-rounded design. To create this sci-fi spaceship, I started off with a sphere. I then created and mirrored the two rings (followed by numerous rotations to achieve the best angles), and then extruded all of the other shapes seen. The joints used to connect the sphere to the rings, and the satellites to the sphere, are simply extruded cylinders. The window is also a result of an extruded cylinder. There is a muffler located at the back of the spaceship.

The sphere is coated in stainless steel and it has a green stained-glass window. The orbs located inside of the satellite dishes are made of ruby red precious gems. The disks surrounding the sphere are coated in a semi-gloss paint.

I came up with my design after messing around with Rhino for a bit. I didn't have any idea or works to base it off when I started but as I progressed more with the design I saw it as a possibly futuristic  sci-fi fantasy type of castle and therefore made it floating. I used commands like Boolean Difference, Mirror, Array, Rotate, Trim, Scale, as well as others to create it. I chose materials like aluminum, glass, and clear plastic to make it look minimalistic and modern. I also used brick and cloth because although it has an overall modern look I see this castle being in a jungle environment instead of outer space.

After watching the new Disney movie Frozen, I decided to create a castle inspired by the one that was made of ice in the movie. My castle intrigues many different aspects that the one in the movie did. For example, there is a tall, pointed spire that crowns the peak of the castle. There are also a number of pointed fractal shapes that embellish both the circumference of the base and the circular windows on the second, third, and fourth floors.

The different modelling commands I used were Curve, Curveboolean, ExtrudeCRV, Rotate, Explode, Join, BooleanDifference, and a few others that may have escaped me.

The materials I used included a blue plastic, a white plastic, a light grey plastic (ground), and finally a blue glass for the external accents to the building.

This castle is not from the past, but from the future.  I designed a spaceship/spacecastle that reminds me of the international space station along with a zeppelin influence.  I used cylinders, cones, ellipsoids, and a paraboloid.  To create a radial design with my objects, I implemented the "arraypolar" command.  I used rough Aluminum as the material in the final render.

My castle was originally influenced by Greek Columned Temples. This is shown through the cylinders which support each level of the floating figure. Mushrooms became a quick focus when using the ArrayPolar command. When using this command the influence of mushrooms became very apparent.

Modeling techniques used within this piece include 3-D joining and the Array Polar command. Shapes used within the piece include paraboloids, cylinders, ellipsoids and toruses. To create the stairs I individually stacked ellipsoids on top of one another to create a staircase.Further, I made several levels and created stairs to create ease for pedestrians traveling among the heavenly structure.

My castle is made of marble. I chose to use this material because it is traditional to Greek Columned Temples. Marble is also a sturdy and attractive material that I believe complements the idea of this heavenly castle.

In my first time modelling on Rhino, I made a castle inspired in some medieval Age castles. Also, I tried to use some commands such as ExtrudeCrv, ExtrudeSrf, PlanarSrfm, BooleanUnion, Revolve, and mainly Move Face to construct the body of my castle and details.

My castle is inspired by the Arendelle castle off of the movie "Frozen." A link to this castle is here. The castle in its entirety is very complex therefore I wanted to focus in on one specific area. The pillars were my main focus. I used several modeling commands to create this castle such as copy, extrudecrv, curveboolean, booleandifference, rotate and many more. The materials I used in Keyshot include metallic paint, stone, and plastic.

My Castle was inspired by medieval times with a twist of modern. It is based off of cubes, cylinders and cones. I created four identical columns to give it the castle feel, as well as guard tower in the front. The main building has tunneling and you can enter the castle from any side and it is open to the public. There is no walls keeping anyone out.

I used a lot of the "Boolean Difference" tool , the "Extrude Curve" tool, the "fillet edge" tool and the "copy" tool, to create my castle. It is made up of basic shapes, such as cylinders, cubes, circles, ovals and cones.

The material I used was steel, because I wanted my castle to have a very sleek and durable look. I wanted it to have very intimidating but welcoming look. I like how the steel is a very reflective surface, creating some cool reflection in the inside of the castle.

My castle was inspired not by a castle that everyone is used to but a castle that I have always wanted to live in. I combined the idea of the drawstring bridge and the typical high surrounding wall that acts as a protector. Although I made my surrounding wall smaller and my middle bridge taller. I did this because I imagine myself being outside and wanted to see out and not be constricted by this tall wall. After looking at past castle projects, I found myself more attracted to the simpler models. I really enjoy simplified architecture, I believe this shows in my simplified castle model.

The modeling techniques I used were curveboolean, ExtrudeCRV, Arraylinear, Mirror,Copy, BooleanUnion and many more. I created doors/walkways though each building and an additional walkway connecting both buildings.

I used the materials old wood, glass, and marble. I originally just wanted to use wood and glass because I love the idea of a log cabin with large windows that look out into nature. I made a mistake of putting marble on the round pillars and then found myself rethinking my material choices.

Details

I was inspired by medieval stables and castles from video games. I used the push pull method a lot and extrude. I used the make hole method to create the windows on the side of the castle. I didn't use any materials in my render.

Peyman Pirzadeh-Week 1- Castle Project

This is basically the first assignment of this quarter. In this project we supposed to design and model a castle. I tried to use variety of shapes to make the model more interesting. I also tried to model each individual part related to each other so the viewer can easily figure it out that the all parts are together.
Since this was my first time using Rhino and it's essential having the knowledge of modeling for industrial designers, I tried to use as many as techniques that we were thought so can be able to work with all of them when it's needed. As instances I can mention using techniques such as: ExtrudeCrv, BooleanDifference, CurveBoolean, Offset, Copy, Rotate, Arraypolar and ArrayLinear.
Also about the materials, we were not required to use any materials for this project so I tried to keep the model as simple as I could and I just applied perforated leather to the whole model.
Below you can see the Ghosted image with the layer painted black, the bird's eye view and a pedestrian view of the model.

Christina Byun: Week 1 castle

My castle design is mainly focused on to the solid form building, and the details, i was inspired by the Bodian castle in England.

Zoe Leung: Week 1 Castle

My castle design is inspired by the historical Iranian adobe structure; it features Islamic crenellation and arch detailing, with an emphasis on solid mass. This is an updated posting with refined compositions.
