I made a Duct tape Dispenser and pencil sharpener. I was inspired to design this for my mom, who just so happens to love ducks! She is an English teacher in middle school so I wanted to design something she could use in the classroom. I came to the idea of turning the duck into a tape dispenser and pencil holder because I realized that they are both the largest items on her desk, and she uses them a lot. I thought that by combining them it would leave more desk space and I liked the idea of designing something that would look really nice on her desk.
I started this design by simply making a duck form. I actually based it more on a duckling image because I thought it would look cuter that way. I used spears for the head, body, eyes and beak that I rebuilt and formed into the desired shape. I then gave it a neck using the blend surfaces command. Once that was done I was able to Boolean difference out the hole for the tape and pencil sharpener. Finally I just used some cylinders to make the tap and put it in place.
For materials I thought about what materials would look the best in the classroom setting. Since all the furniture in room including her desk is wood I decided to stick with the same look. I decided on using the polished wood and chose the colors that I thought gave the Duck the most personality.
