The intent for my rubber duck project was to replicate forms found in
modern day glass lamp working. I chose to look to the glass artist Ryno for inspiration because i really like his fun take on the whole rubber
duck theme. I then reinterpreted some of Ryno’s shapes in order to
design a wine vessel in my own style.
This project was challenging so in order to make the shaping easier on myself I imported an image to use as a background in one of my view ports. The tools i used included spheres, scaling, sweep 2, sweep 1, extrusions, filleting, and boolean tools. The duck bill gave me the most trouble and I had to use techniques that resulted in unstable and naked geometry.
I chose to render the duck vessel in bright shiny colors in order to emphasize the rubber duck montage as well as give it a bright fun and inviting look. I chose to make the material glass like the inspiration I drew from and to emphasize the hollow nature of the object. I also included glass encased opals using a custom material I made using an image for texture, as well as to give it a “balling” look.
