Samantha Whitmore: Week 2 Flashlight

Samantha Whitmore Winter2014 elds205 Flashlight
Comping up with an idea for the flashlight took some time. When looking at older posts of previous students in this class I got the idea of having part of the flashlight to be transparent, allowing some light to be seen through the sides. Also my shower curtain, which has moons, suns, and stars covering it, had given me the ideas for the star shapes and the night light colors.

For creating the curved edges I used fillet curves and edge. A lot of practicing the Boolean tool for hollowing was used, leading me to use Boolean union as well as Boolean difference. For making the stars I used the Polygon tool, using Array to continue to circle around, following by the mirror tool to reverse the stars to be formed in the other direction.

I wanted the handle to be easy to grab. The dark grey color on the handle is made of leather. The polygon shape the intersects with the handle is made with nylon. With the spikes arrayed there it'll be easier to hold while in use. The star spikes are made of glass creating a transparent view of them. Leaving the rest of the structure to be made of a soft solid.
